1
00:00:05,964 --> 00:00:07,650
Where are we at with
the veggies? Veggies?
2
00:00:07,674 --> 00:00:09,444
I was deconstructing
the water ice.
3
00:00:09,468 --> 00:00:11,196
Are you kidding me?
4
00:00:11,220 --> 00:00:14,157
We're pretty busy prepping
for open house, aka AVA Fest.
5
00:00:14,181 --> 00:00:16,201
Last year, we only served
various mac and cheeses,
6
00:00:16,225 --> 00:00:17,911
so this year, we elevated.
7
00:00:17,935 --> 00:00:19,287
It's time to show the people
8
00:00:19,311 --> 00:00:21,414
what Abbott Elementary
kitchen can really do.
9
00:00:21,438 --> 00:00:22,749
Hands! I need hands!
10
00:00:22,773 --> 00:00:23,958
Yes, chef! We're walking.
11
00:00:23,982 --> 00:00:26,818
We're walking, table one.
12
00:00:40,374 --> 00:00:42,334
Oh, allow me.
13
00:00:56,974 --> 00:00:59,577
This is
14
00:00:59,601 --> 00:01:02,163
trash.
15
00:01:02,187 --> 00:01:04,231
Nnnooo!
16
00:01:05,274 --> 00:01:06,525
Now, who's gonna clean that up?
17
00:01:19,288 --> 00:01:22,475
Next month's priority is
Emily's tutoring initiative,
18
00:01:22,499 --> 00:01:23,935
"The Study Buddy,"
19
00:01:23,959 --> 00:01:25,770
so keep your eyes out for
your school assignments.
20
00:01:25,794 --> 00:01:27,855
That's weird,
21
00:01:27,879 --> 00:01:29,399
'cause it sounds a lot like
the program that I pitched.
22
00:01:29,423 --> 00:01:31,818
Remember, "Tutor Friends"?
23
00:01:31,842 --> 00:01:34,195
For the last time,
Simon, it's not the same.
24
00:01:34,219 --> 00:01:35,321
Mine rhymes.
25
00:01:35,345 --> 00:01:37,115
Oh, that's why I
liked it better.
26
00:01:37,139 --> 00:01:38,533
Nothing rhymes with "tutor."
27
00:01:38,557 --> 00:01:40,910
Tutor, scooter. Tutor,
shooter. Tutor, recruiter.
28
00:01:40,934 --> 00:01:43,121
Oh, that's good.
29
00:01:43,145 --> 00:01:46,374
Moving on to a program update.
30
00:01:46,398 --> 00:01:48,668
Early reports are back
for the first month
31
00:01:48,692 --> 00:01:51,713
of the expansion of
Janine's librarian program,
32
00:01:51,737 --> 00:01:54,257
and feedback has been
extremely positive.
33
00:01:54,281 --> 00:01:55,967
Well, that's the big Teagues.
34
00:01:55,991 --> 00:01:57,010
That's the big
Teagues over here.
35
00:01:57,034 --> 00:01:58,553
The big Teagues! Come on.
36
00:01:58,577 --> 00:02:00,263
Teacher evaluations
are through the roof.
37
00:02:00,287 --> 00:02:01,848
There's also been
improvement in attendance
38
00:02:01,872 --> 00:02:04,559
and even classroom
participation.
39
00:02:04,583 --> 00:02:05,893
I'm not sure if
that has anything
40
00:02:05,917 --> 00:02:07,478
to do with your program,
41
00:02:07,502 --> 00:02:10,714
but if I were you, I
would take the credit.
42
00:02:11,590 --> 00:02:12,650
Cool.
43
00:02:12,674 --> 00:02:16,404
Oh, hey, that's my class.
44
00:02:16,428 --> 00:02:18,656
There are going to be so
many more Abbots you can help
45
00:02:18,680 --> 00:02:19,907
now that you're
here permanently.
46
00:02:19,931 --> 00:02:22,744
Yep. Alright, everyone,
until next month.
47
00:02:22,768 --> 00:02:25,830
And please, do not submit any
new proposals unless they are,
48
00:02:25,854 --> 00:02:27,165
say it with me now... Fffff.
49
00:02:27,189 --> 00:02:29,042
Fire.
50
00:02:29,066 --> 00:02:31,044
For real. Fantastic.
51
00:02:31,068 --> 00:02:32,462
Free. Free!
52
00:02:32,486 --> 00:02:33,921
Free.
53
00:02:33,945 --> 00:02:35,465
Come, on guys. We
know "free," right?
54
00:02:35,489 --> 00:02:37,383
I feel like I say
this every day.
55
00:02:37,407 --> 00:02:38,950
You do. Yeah.
56
00:02:40,577 --> 00:02:43,264
Hey, don't forget, everybody,
per district tradition,
57
00:02:43,288 --> 00:02:45,767
tonight is Janine's
official new hire party.
58
00:02:45,791 --> 00:02:47,977
Woo. Hey, hey, hey.
59
00:02:48,001 --> 00:02:51,189
Wow. Alright. You good?
60
00:02:51,213 --> 00:02:52,982
You didn't seem as pumped
as I thought you would be
61
00:02:53,006 --> 00:02:53,983
with your program killing it.
62
00:02:54,007 --> 00:02:56,611
Oh, yeah. I'm... fine.
63
00:02:56,635 --> 00:02:59,072
I don't know. I just feel
a little off, I guess.
64
00:02:59,096 --> 00:03:00,865
Ah, I get it. You're in the dip.
65
00:03:00,889 --> 00:03:02,116
What's the dip?
66
00:03:02,140 --> 00:03:04,285
It's like when a
big project ends
67
00:03:04,309 --> 00:03:05,286
and the dust settles,
and you're like,
68
00:03:05,310 --> 00:03:06,788
"What do I do now?
69
00:03:06,812 --> 00:03:07,872
Buy a condo?
70
00:03:07,896 --> 00:03:08,998
Redo the one I have?"
71
00:03:09,022 --> 00:03:10,375
You have a condo?
72
00:03:10,399 --> 00:03:12,794
There's so many other
projects coming down the line,
73
00:03:12,818 --> 00:03:14,462
you won't even have enough time
74
00:03:14,486 --> 00:03:15,922
to think about being
in the dip too long.
75
00:03:15,946 --> 00:03:17,173
Trust me.
76
00:03:17,197 --> 00:03:18,674
Cool.
77
00:03:18,698 --> 00:03:21,302
Seeing my students doing
so well in the program
78
00:03:21,326 --> 00:03:23,471
seems like it would
have made me elated,
79
00:03:23,495 --> 00:03:27,100
so it's good to know where that
off feeling was coming from.
80
00:03:27,124 --> 00:03:29,227
I guess that's just what happens
81
00:03:29,251 --> 00:03:32,063
when you're always
working on new projects.
82
00:03:32,087 --> 00:03:34,399
You dip.
83
00:03:34,423 --> 00:03:36,567
What are we even meeting
about the open house for?
84
00:03:36,591 --> 00:03:37,902
I got a classroom to prep.
85
00:03:37,926 --> 00:03:39,404
Attention, attention.
86
00:03:39,428 --> 00:03:41,656
We have a very
packed agenda today.
87
00:03:41,680 --> 00:03:44,033
It just says "AVA Fest"
over and over and over.
88
00:03:44,057 --> 00:03:45,118
Exactly.
89
00:03:45,142 --> 00:03:46,536
Last year's AVA Fest was great,
90
00:03:46,560 --> 00:03:48,162
but this year needs to be
even bigger and better.
91
00:03:48,186 --> 00:03:50,123
Well, last year you
lied to everybody
92
00:03:50,147 --> 00:03:51,582
and said that Jazmine
Sullivan was coming.
93
00:03:51,606 --> 00:03:52,750
And then people got very angry.
94
00:03:52,774 --> 00:03:53,960
Mm-hmm.
95
00:03:53,984 --> 00:03:56,003
And this year's needs
to be even better.
96
00:03:56,027 --> 00:03:58,214
Ava, this is simply
an open house.
97
00:03:58,238 --> 00:04:00,341
We will continue
prepping all day,
98
00:04:00,365 --> 00:04:02,051
and everything
will be just fine.
99
00:04:02,075 --> 00:04:03,302
Do you think I want something
100
00:04:03,326 --> 00:04:04,762
that has my name on
it to be just fine?
101
00:04:04,786 --> 00:04:06,389
Doesn't have to have
your name on it.
102
00:04:06,413 --> 00:04:08,516
I've actually been
prepping all week.
103
00:04:08,540 --> 00:04:10,518
Look at the solar system
that my class made.
104
00:04:10,542 --> 00:04:12,770
Aww. Boo!
105
00:04:12,794 --> 00:04:14,272
Un-show me that, right now.
106
00:04:14,296 --> 00:04:16,524
AVA Fest, on the other hand,
is going to be special.
107
00:04:16,548 --> 00:04:18,693
I just have to come up with a
way to take it over the top,
108
00:04:18,717 --> 00:04:20,528
a way to make it unhinged.
109
00:04:20,552 --> 00:04:21,863
Have you ever tried
just being hinged?
110
00:04:21,887 --> 00:04:24,615
Alright. Are we done here?
111
00:04:24,639 --> 00:04:26,367
I need to put the finishing
touches on my proposal
112
00:04:26,391 --> 00:04:27,618
before I go drop it
off at the district.
113
00:04:27,642 --> 00:04:30,121
Gregory's Garden Goofballs
getting a glow up.
114
00:04:30,145 --> 00:04:31,914
Gregory, would you please
give this to Janine?
115
00:04:31,938 --> 00:04:33,458
Yeah, I got a box
of her crap, too.
116
00:04:33,482 --> 00:04:35,710
Oh, could you also give
her this important message?
117
00:04:35,734 --> 00:04:37,837
I love her, I miss her, and I
can't wait to see her again.
118
00:04:37,861 --> 00:04:39,630
Oh... I'll paraphrase.
119
00:04:39,654 --> 00:04:42,717
Well, make yourself useful
and grab Janine's lanyard.
120
00:04:42,741 --> 00:04:45,553
The AVA Dome has a strict
no Janine re-entry policy.
121
00:04:45,577 --> 00:04:49,223
Alright, everyone, focus.
122
00:04:49,247 --> 00:04:51,476
You are all set.
123
00:04:51,500 --> 00:04:53,686
Now, they're going to email you
when it's officially official.
124
00:04:53,710 --> 00:04:55,438
That's amazing. Thank you.
125
00:04:55,462 --> 00:04:57,356
Oh, do you happen to know where
Janine Teagues' office is?
126
00:04:57,380 --> 00:05:00,026
Mm, yes. Office 237.
127
00:05:00,050 --> 00:05:01,778
Thanks. On the second floor.
128
00:05:01,802 --> 00:05:03,362
Now, you're going to pass
129
00:05:03,386 --> 00:05:05,990
a little kitchenette moment,
and 237 is right next to 239.
130
00:05:06,014 --> 00:05:07,450
Now, if you go to that
big conference room,
131
00:05:07,474 --> 00:05:08,451
you've gone too far.
132
00:05:08,475 --> 00:05:12,062
Yeah.
133
00:05:13,980 --> 00:05:15,625
This place would
collapse without me.
134
00:05:15,649 --> 00:05:16,667
Okay.
135
00:05:16,691 --> 00:05:17,877
I figured it out, y'all.
136
00:05:17,901 --> 00:05:19,712
I found a way to top last year.
137
00:05:19,736 --> 00:05:21,088
And here we go.
138
00:05:21,112 --> 00:05:23,508
I got a Root! Philadelphia's
own Questlove.
139
00:05:23,532 --> 00:05:24,634
Ahh.
140
00:05:24,658 --> 00:05:25,968
The same way you
got Jazmine Sullivan
141
00:05:25,992 --> 00:05:26,803
to come here last year?
142
00:05:26,827 --> 00:05:28,054
Exactly.
143
00:05:28,078 --> 00:05:29,806
Okay, but she didn't come.
144
00:05:29,830 --> 00:05:32,016
Do you not have an imagination?
145
00:05:32,040 --> 00:05:33,810
Mm-hmm. Questlove
and I go way back.
146
00:05:33,834 --> 00:05:35,812
We went parasailing in the
Florida Keys over summer break.
147
00:05:35,836 --> 00:05:37,438
He lost his afro
pick in the water.
148
00:05:37,462 --> 00:05:39,273
Almost ruined the whole trip.
149
00:05:39,297 --> 00:05:42,818
So he kept his afro pick
in while parasailing?
150
00:05:42,842 --> 00:05:45,905
He never takes it out. He
says it holds his power.
151
00:05:45,929 --> 00:05:47,615
Look, Questlove is coming.
152
00:05:47,639 --> 00:05:49,450
The people need to know.
153
00:05:49,474 --> 00:05:50,660
Jacob, I want you to
make a flyer on Canva,
154
00:05:50,684 --> 00:05:52,620
something that pops,
and then blast it wide.
155
00:05:52,644 --> 00:05:55,957
Sure, I'll get right on that.
156
00:05:55,981 --> 00:05:57,124
Pick up the energy, people!
157
00:05:57,148 --> 00:05:59,168
I don't want my
esteemed best friend
158
00:05:59,192 --> 00:06:00,753
and occasional pickleball
partner, Questlove,
159
00:06:00,777 --> 00:06:02,547
to catch a bad vibe
at my festival.
160
00:06:02,571 --> 00:06:04,090
Ava, come on...
161
00:06:04,114 --> 00:06:05,174
You know she's lying.
162
00:06:05,198 --> 00:06:06,968
Just keep doing
what you're doing.
163
00:06:06,992 --> 00:06:08,719
Let her go.
164
00:06:08,743 --> 00:06:11,639
We are so excited for
your party tonight.
165
00:06:11,663 --> 00:06:13,307
I hope you don't
like hooks, girl,
166
00:06:13,331 --> 00:06:14,850
'cause this party
gonna be off one. Ooh.
167
00:06:14,874 --> 00:06:17,311
Party's starting to
sound like a big deal.
168
00:06:17,335 --> 00:06:19,730
'Cause it's your big day.
You're one of us now.
169
00:06:19,754 --> 00:06:21,148
One of us. Yeah.
170
00:06:21,172 --> 00:06:25,927
One of us. One of us. One of us.
171
00:06:29,264 --> 00:06:30,575
Party's gonna be off
the hook, I get it.
172
00:06:30,599 --> 00:06:31,909
What party?
173
00:06:31,933 --> 00:06:34,287
Oh, my God. I'm so sorry.
174
00:06:34,311 --> 00:06:35,663
I thought you were
one of my coworkers.
175
00:06:35,687 --> 00:06:36,540
Well, I used to be.
176
00:06:36,564 --> 00:06:37,874
What are you doing here?
177
00:06:37,898 --> 00:06:39,417
I'm just here dropping
off the paperwork
178
00:06:39,441 --> 00:06:40,918
for my Goofballs proposal.
179
00:06:40,942 --> 00:06:42,503
Oh, that's great.
180
00:06:42,527 --> 00:06:43,880
It's gonna go
through, I know it.
181
00:06:43,904 --> 00:06:45,673
This is a nice view.
182
00:06:45,697 --> 00:06:47,675
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Thanks. You know what?
183
00:06:47,699 --> 00:06:53,514
If you squint hard enough,
you can see Abbott from here.
184
00:06:53,538 --> 00:06:55,433
Um, speaking of Abbott,
185
00:06:55,457 --> 00:06:57,602
I have some parting
gifts from the crew. Oh.
186
00:06:57,626 --> 00:06:59,520
I have a card from Barbara. Aww.
187
00:06:59,544 --> 00:07:01,397
A framed photo of
Jacob from Jacob.
188
00:07:01,421 --> 00:07:03,107
Mm-hmm.
189
00:07:03,131 --> 00:07:04,817
Melissa got you some mace,
190
00:07:04,841 --> 00:07:06,944
and Mr. Johnson wanted
you to have a strand
191
00:07:06,968 --> 00:07:09,864
from his favorite mop.
192
00:07:09,888 --> 00:07:11,782
That is so thoughtful.
193
00:07:11,806 --> 00:07:14,869
And this is from me.
194
00:07:14,893 --> 00:07:16,954
Wow! Dirt!
195
00:07:16,978 --> 00:07:18,205
You said that you missed
the dirt at Abbott,
196
00:07:18,229 --> 00:07:19,582
so I brought it to you.
197
00:07:19,606 --> 00:07:21,125
Oh, my God.
198
00:07:21,149 --> 00:07:22,209
There's also seeds in there.
199
00:07:22,233 --> 00:07:24,462
It's a polka dot plant.
200
00:07:24,486 --> 00:07:27,840
It's supposed to be a reminder
to embrace the unexpected.
201
00:07:27,864 --> 00:07:29,842
Thanks, Gregory. I love it.
202
00:07:29,866 --> 00:07:31,177
Alright, I gotta head out.
203
00:07:31,201 --> 00:07:32,219
We're still prepping
for AVA Fest.
204
00:07:32,243 --> 00:07:33,220
You gonna be there?
205
00:07:33,244 --> 00:07:34,722
Oh, no.
206
00:07:34,746 --> 00:07:36,474
That party I mentioned earlier,
207
00:07:36,498 --> 00:07:37,808
it's kind of for me,
so I can't miss it.
208
00:07:37,832 --> 00:07:38,934
Okay.
209
00:07:38,958 --> 00:07:41,062
Oh, um...
210
00:07:41,086 --> 00:07:42,897
Ava said I need to get your
Abbott lanyard from you.
211
00:07:42,921 --> 00:07:44,148
It's probably at home
or something like that,
212
00:07:44,172 --> 00:07:47,526
so when you get
a chance, just...
213
00:07:47,550 --> 00:07:49,278
You still have it on?
214
00:07:49,302 --> 00:07:50,613
Yeah.
215
00:07:50,637 --> 00:07:52,073
Just thought it went
well with this outfit,
216
00:07:52,097 --> 00:07:55,451
and all my other outfits, so...
217
00:07:55,475 --> 00:07:57,370
Thanks for coming,
Gregory. Yeah.
218
00:07:57,394 --> 00:07:59,163
And I love my dirt!
219
00:07:59,187 --> 00:08:01,374
It's a plant, but
see you around.
220
00:08:01,398 --> 00:08:05,211
Bye.
221
00:08:05,235 --> 00:08:08,756
Yeah, it's the end of an era,
222
00:08:08,780 --> 00:08:13,344
but Janine will always have a
special place with all of us.
223
00:08:13,368 --> 00:08:14,804
I mean, it's because of her
224
00:08:14,828 --> 00:08:17,014
I realized that Abbott
is where I'm meant to be.
225
00:08:17,038 --> 00:08:22,544
So it's great to see her find
where she is meant to be.
226
00:08:28,925 --> 00:08:30,820
All three now.
Right, chef? Yeah.
227
00:08:30,844 --> 00:08:33,489
I just texted my mom, and
she sent me this voice note.
228
00:08:33,513 --> 00:08:35,783
Oh, my God, Oh, my
God, Oh, my God!
229
00:08:35,807 --> 00:08:36,951
I love Questlove!
230
00:08:36,975 --> 00:08:38,411
See, Mom gets it.
231
00:08:38,435 --> 00:08:40,162
So make sure you tell
everyone you know,
232
00:08:40,186 --> 00:08:43,165
AVA Fest is not to be missed.
233
00:08:43,189 --> 00:08:44,834
Ava.
234
00:08:44,858 --> 00:08:47,837
How exactly did you
meet Questlove? Yeah.
235
00:08:47,861 --> 00:08:49,046
We met at a party in the 2000s.
236
00:08:49,070 --> 00:08:50,965
I was dating Allen Iverson.
237
00:08:50,989 --> 00:08:52,925
A couple of his groupies
was trying to get at me.
238
00:08:52,949 --> 00:08:54,468
I'm beating on them,
239
00:08:54,492 --> 00:08:55,553
and then Questlove
walks by and he says,
240
00:08:55,577 --> 00:08:57,513
"You have natural rhythm."
241
00:08:57,537 --> 00:08:59,140
A couple of weeks later,
we started The Roots.
242
00:08:59,164 --> 00:09:02,101
So you're saying that you're a
founding member of The Roots?
243
00:09:02,125 --> 00:09:03,436
More like the founder.
244
00:09:03,460 --> 00:09:04,520
Ava, you're not a Root.
245
00:09:04,544 --> 00:09:06,063
Well, I quit to save the band.
246
00:09:06,087 --> 00:09:08,836
I almost Yoko Ono'd them.
247
00:09:09,016 --> 00:09:11,036
I really thought we were going
to be able to ignore this
248
00:09:11,060 --> 00:09:13,956
and just have a
lovely open house,
249
00:09:13,980 --> 00:09:15,791
but this is gonna be a problem.
250
00:09:15,815 --> 00:09:17,084
I haven't even
sent the flyer out,
251
00:09:17,108 --> 00:09:18,710
and word is already spreading.
252
00:09:18,734 --> 00:09:20,295
One of the parents
just texted me
253
00:09:20,319 --> 00:09:21,922
and asked if there
are VIP tickets.
254
00:09:21,946 --> 00:09:26,075
Okay, this calls for a plan
B you cannot get at CVS.
255
00:09:27,326 --> 00:09:28,720
Okay, the party starts at 8:00,
256
00:09:28,744 --> 00:09:30,347
and you'll probably want
to take a car home after,
257
00:09:30,371 --> 00:09:31,890
because things can
get a little wild.
258
00:09:31,914 --> 00:09:33,559
There will be cake,
there will be fun...
259
00:09:33,583 --> 00:09:35,060
There will be blood oaths.
260
00:09:35,084 --> 00:09:36,770
What? He's kidding.
261
00:09:36,794 --> 00:09:38,421
No. Don't do that.
262
00:09:41,507 --> 00:09:42,693
Teagues? Yeah?
263
00:09:42,717 --> 00:09:43,694
You see your new assignment?
264
00:09:43,718 --> 00:09:45,237
Oh, yeah. I got the email.
265
00:09:45,261 --> 00:09:46,363
Just haven't had a chance to...
266
00:09:46,387 --> 00:09:47,823
Okay, so we are
going to have you do
267
00:09:47,847 --> 00:09:50,158
a class size assessment
of the ninth grade.
268
00:09:50,182 --> 00:09:52,202
You're going to start at
Park Legendary High School.
269
00:09:52,226 --> 00:09:53,787
Oh, okay.
270
00:09:53,811 --> 00:09:55,205
See, I was just thinking I'd
stick with elementary schools
271
00:09:55,229 --> 00:09:56,915
and stay at Abbott.
272
00:09:56,939 --> 00:09:59,042
Oh, you know what? That's on me.
273
00:09:59,066 --> 00:10:01,420
I forgot to ask you which
school you'd prefer.
274
00:10:01,444 --> 00:10:03,505
Oh, it's alright. So I was...
275
00:10:03,529 --> 00:10:05,299
Of course, I'm being sarcastic.
276
00:10:05,323 --> 00:10:06,383
Your job is to help all the
schools in the district,
277
00:10:06,407 --> 00:10:08,218
not just Abbott.
278
00:10:08,242 --> 00:10:10,012
Right. Totally hear you. Yeah.
279
00:10:10,036 --> 00:10:11,179
I was just thinking maybe
I would ease into it,
280
00:10:11,203 --> 00:10:12,264
like a cold plunge?
281
00:10:12,288 --> 00:10:14,933
You don't ease
into a cold plunge.
282
00:10:14,957 --> 00:10:16,518
That's pretty... pretty
sure it's in the name.
283
00:10:16,542 --> 00:10:17,686
Mm-hmm. Yeah.
284
00:10:17,710 --> 00:10:19,563
Janine, this is all
mapped out for you
285
00:10:19,587 --> 00:10:20,856
in your new hire packet
286
00:10:20,880 --> 00:10:23,150
raise in year two,
promotion in year three.
287
00:10:23,174 --> 00:10:24,609
Yep.
288
00:10:24,633 --> 00:10:25,486
Team leader in year
four. I read it.
289
00:10:25,510 --> 00:10:26,862
Great, so you're familiar with
290
00:10:26,886 --> 00:10:28,280
our standard seven-year plan.
291
00:10:28,304 --> 00:10:29,722
Welcome to your future.
292
00:10:30,806 --> 00:10:32,659
Ooh, this is heavy.
293
00:10:32,683 --> 00:10:34,244
Whoa.
294
00:10:34,268 --> 00:10:36,479
Big cake. Yeah.
295
00:10:38,189 --> 00:10:40,292
Questlove gonna be here?
296
00:10:40,316 --> 00:10:42,878
Questlove! I'm telling you...
297
00:10:42,902 --> 00:10:44,921
What have you got?
298
00:10:44,945 --> 00:10:46,131
Well, I've got my church
choir ready to sing
299
00:10:46,155 --> 00:10:48,091
one of our secular selections,
300
00:10:48,115 --> 00:10:49,926
"Angel" by Amanda Perez.
301
00:10:49,950 --> 00:10:51,178
Great,
302
00:10:51,202 --> 00:10:52,804
and I reached out to
the Story Samurai.
303
00:10:52,828 --> 00:10:54,431
They said they're going to come
and do some story performances.
304
00:10:54,455 --> 00:10:56,516
But they did ask for a per
diem, which in Latin... Ohh.
305
00:10:56,540 --> 00:10:58,435
I reached out to Tariq to see
if he could perform again,
306
00:10:58,459 --> 00:11:01,271
but apparently he's moderating
a panel at City Hall.
307
00:11:01,295 --> 00:11:03,231
Well, I'm bringing a
few friends myself...
308
00:11:03,255 --> 00:11:06,693
De Niro. Stallone.
309
00:11:06,717 --> 00:11:08,862
And then Stallone as De Niro.
310
00:11:08,886 --> 00:11:11,764
"Yo, Adrian, you lookin' at me?"
311
00:11:14,600 --> 00:11:17,120
Yeah, yeah. Yeah, right?
312
00:11:17,144 --> 00:11:19,289
There is one more thing.
313
00:11:19,313 --> 00:11:20,415
Um, Ava asked me to send
that email to all the parents
314
00:11:20,439 --> 00:11:21,750
with the Canva flyer,
315
00:11:21,774 --> 00:11:23,335
and I took the liberty
of letting them know
316
00:11:23,359 --> 00:11:25,962
that Questlove will
not be able to attend.
317
00:11:25,986 --> 00:11:27,422
Oh.
318
00:11:27,446 --> 00:11:29,782
Jacob, you beautiful
backstabber.
319
00:11:31,242 --> 00:11:32,719
Oh, hey, there.
320
00:11:32,743 --> 00:11:34,304
I've been trying
to track you down.
321
00:11:34,328 --> 00:11:35,514
Now, here's all the information
322
00:11:35,538 --> 00:11:37,015
to enroll in our
health insurance.
323
00:11:37,039 --> 00:11:38,809
Which, let me tell
you, it's pretty bomb.
324
00:11:38,833 --> 00:11:40,685
That's why my
teeth are on point.
325
00:11:40,709 --> 00:11:43,146
Um, you know what?
326
00:11:43,170 --> 00:11:45,273
I don't actually need
better health insurance.
327
00:11:45,297 --> 00:11:47,526
Um, I'm healthy.
328
00:11:47,550 --> 00:11:49,152
And if everyone in America can't
have free health insurance,
329
00:11:49,176 --> 00:11:50,737
why should I?
330
00:11:50,761 --> 00:11:52,364
Okay, first of
all, it's not free.
331
00:11:52,388 --> 00:11:53,907
And second of all, are you sure?
332
00:11:53,931 --> 00:11:55,492
Because I've heard
you breathing,
333
00:11:55,516 --> 00:11:56,952
and I think you
need a specialist.
334
00:11:56,976 --> 00:11:59,162
Or maybe I just have a
special way of breathing.
335
00:11:59,186 --> 00:12:00,288
There you are.
336
00:12:00,312 --> 00:12:01,873
Here is your permanent
parking pass.
337
00:12:01,897 --> 00:12:03,709
Employee lot is right out front.
338
00:12:03,733 --> 00:12:05,711
Um, you know what?
339
00:12:05,735 --> 00:12:06,962
I don't really need
a parking spot.
340
00:12:06,986 --> 00:12:08,713
I can just walk.
341
00:12:08,737 --> 00:12:10,132
It's like, a 20-minute walk.
342
00:12:10,156 --> 00:12:12,634
Yeah. That's okay. I
love to walk, you know?
343
00:12:12,658 --> 00:12:14,553
Look, I love it.
344
00:12:14,577 --> 00:12:15,721
Doing it right now.
Doing a good job at it.
345
00:12:15,745 --> 00:12:17,139
Hey, I noticed you
haven't signed up
346
00:12:17,163 --> 00:12:19,307
for your 401K.
347
00:12:19,331 --> 00:12:20,851
When you don't fill
out the paperwork,
348
00:12:20,875 --> 00:12:23,145
I have to talk to people,
and I hate talking to people.
349
00:12:23,169 --> 00:12:26,273
Great, I'll sign up for it if
there's something less intense,
350
00:12:26,297 --> 00:12:28,883
you know, like a 301K or a 201J.
351
00:12:32,303 --> 00:12:33,864
What is that?
352
00:12:33,888 --> 00:12:35,490
Where did this come from?
353
00:12:35,514 --> 00:12:37,826
That's a super sick
district desktop computer.
354
00:12:37,850 --> 00:12:39,327
You got to personalize
your background.
355
00:12:39,351 --> 00:12:40,454
Mine's a mountain lion.
356
00:12:40,478 --> 00:12:41,455
Well, I don't want it.
357
00:12:41,479 --> 00:12:42,747
Oh. Yeah.
358
00:12:42,771 --> 00:12:45,000
I like my laptop
because it's mobile.
359
00:12:45,024 --> 00:12:47,794
You can move. You're
not stuck anywhere.
360
00:12:47,818 --> 00:12:51,006
That's the reason why Steve
Jobs made laptops, Simon.
361
00:12:51,030 --> 00:12:54,301
If I get information and I
want to take it somewhere,
362
00:12:54,325 --> 00:12:55,761
where do I put it, Simon?
363
00:12:55,785 --> 00:12:58,787
I don't know, Janine. The cloud?
364
00:13:06,712 --> 00:13:10,424
Yeah, baby. Oh, behave.
365
00:13:12,593 --> 00:13:14,529
Okay, I don't know who
that's supposed to be,
366
00:13:14,553 --> 00:13:16,948
but he sounds responsible.
367
00:13:16,972 --> 00:13:19,892
Who wants to die? Which
one of you did this?
368
00:13:22,186 --> 00:13:23,872
I did.
369
00:13:23,896 --> 00:13:25,999
I did. Ava.
370
00:13:26,023 --> 00:13:28,793
We did not want to lie to the
people coming to AVA Fest.
371
00:13:28,817 --> 00:13:30,754
And the real entertainment
will go over better
372
00:13:30,778 --> 00:13:32,923
if the community is not
expecting Questlove.
373
00:13:32,947 --> 00:13:35,467
'Cause he ain't showing up.
374
00:13:35,491 --> 00:13:37,677
Shh. Y'all are haters.
375
00:13:37,701 --> 00:13:39,554
He thanked me in the liner
notes of "Things Fall Apart."
376
00:13:39,578 --> 00:13:41,890
That's when I used to go
by the name MC Gillette,
377
00:13:41,914 --> 00:13:43,892
a name that he gave
me because he said
378
00:13:43,916 --> 00:13:46,019
I am the best a man can get.
379
00:13:46,043 --> 00:13:47,812
Now I gotta make another
flyer and send it out myself.
380
00:13:47,836 --> 00:13:49,231
Corner.
381
00:13:49,255 --> 00:13:52,150
Are we just yelling
out things we see now?
382
00:13:52,174 --> 00:13:54,677
Walls, floor, huge mess of food!
383
00:13:57,096 --> 00:13:59,098
Get in my belly.
384
00:14:01,016 --> 00:14:04,079
I got your start paperwork.
385
00:14:04,103 --> 00:14:06,414
Oh, yeah. This is my
favorite tradition.
386
00:14:06,438 --> 00:14:08,542
You take a shot, you
sign the paperwork,
387
00:14:08,566 --> 00:14:09,960
we snap a nasty photo.
388
00:14:09,984 --> 00:14:11,461
Oh, boy.
389
00:14:11,485 --> 00:14:12,963
It's just a fun little thing
390
00:14:12,987 --> 00:14:14,589
we've been doing for
all the new hires.
391
00:14:14,613 --> 00:14:16,758
You do not have
to take the shot,
392
00:14:16,782 --> 00:14:18,051
but you got to take the photo.
393
00:14:18,075 --> 00:14:19,636
But you should
still take the shot.
394
00:14:19,660 --> 00:14:20,679
Here. Oh.
395
00:14:20,703 --> 00:14:23,306
Uh, alright.
396
00:14:23,330 --> 00:14:25,016
Um, you know what?
397
00:14:25,040 --> 00:14:26,851
I just need to go
grab my lucky pen,
398
00:14:26,875 --> 00:14:28,937
because I cannot
sign without it.
399
00:14:28,961 --> 00:14:30,939
So I'll be right back.
400
00:14:30,963 --> 00:14:32,816
And, um...
401
00:14:32,840 --> 00:14:35,652
Simon, make sure you get the
perfect lighting for me, okay?
402
00:14:35,676 --> 00:14:37,028
Do I have the perfect lighting?
403
00:14:37,052 --> 00:14:38,887
Uh, shhing.
404
00:15:06,707 --> 00:15:08,518
"Janine,
405
00:15:08,542 --> 00:15:10,353
I'm so proud of the
person you've become.
406
00:15:10,377 --> 00:15:14,190
I have no doubt your
adventure is just beginning.
407
00:15:14,214 --> 00:15:17,527
One thing I've learned about you
is that you have a big heart.
408
00:15:17,551 --> 00:15:22,782
And, my dear, that heart
will never lead you astray.
409
00:15:22,806 --> 00:15:25,351
"Blessings, Barbara."
410
00:15:42,826 --> 00:15:47,140
Hey, are you good?
411
00:15:47,164 --> 00:15:50,918
Honestly, better
than I've ever been.
412
00:15:52,551 --> 00:15:53,528
Alright, I gotta
413
00:15:53,552 --> 00:15:55,026
get to the chopper,
414
00:15:55,051 --> 00:15:57,952
but as Matthew
McConaughey would say...
415
00:15:58,142 --> 00:16:00,210
AVA Fest's alright,
416
00:16:00,235 --> 00:16:03,548
alright, alright.
417
00:16:03,573 --> 00:16:05,968
Thank you.
418
00:16:05,992 --> 00:16:08,095
I can't believe they
made me sit through that.
419
00:16:08,119 --> 00:16:09,763
Questlove better be here soon.
420
00:16:09,787 --> 00:16:13,392
They better not have
lured us down here again
421
00:16:13,416 --> 00:16:15,352
with the promise of seeing
a well-known and respected
422
00:16:15,376 --> 00:16:17,938
R&B and/or rap artist.
423
00:16:17,962 --> 00:16:21,775
Okay, so there are a few
disappointed people here,
424
00:16:21,799 --> 00:16:24,194
but overall, I think
it's going pretty well.
425
00:16:24,218 --> 00:16:25,737
Thank God we had a backup
plan. You're welcome.
426
00:16:25,761 --> 00:16:28,323
And people seem to
be liking the food.
427
00:16:28,347 --> 00:16:29,783
Thank you. We
worked really hard,
428
00:16:29,807 --> 00:16:31,201
lost some good men.
429
00:16:31,225 --> 00:16:32,452
Shanae quit.
430
00:16:32,476 --> 00:16:35,163
I said I was quick, dumb-ass.
431
00:16:35,187 --> 00:16:37,291
Oh. What's up?
432
00:16:37,315 --> 00:16:39,001
It's the district.
433
00:16:39,025 --> 00:16:40,377
The Garden Goofballs program
passed its final hurdle.
434
00:16:40,401 --> 00:16:41,587
It's officially approved.
435
00:16:41,611 --> 00:16:43,880
Ooh, good for you, goofball. Oh!
436
00:16:43,904 --> 00:16:45,257
That is so awesome.
437
00:16:45,281 --> 00:16:47,718
Well, I'll be.
438
00:16:47,742 --> 00:16:49,052
Gomer Pyle.
439
00:16:49,076 --> 00:16:50,137
Congrats, man.
440
00:16:50,161 --> 00:16:51,597
I knew it was gonna happen.
441
00:16:51,621 --> 00:16:52,806
It's just good to
know it's official.
442
00:16:52,830 --> 00:16:54,141
I gotta tell Janine.
443
00:16:54,165 --> 00:16:55,601
Aww. Tell Janine what?
444
00:16:55,625 --> 00:16:58,145
What are you doing here?
445
00:16:58,169 --> 00:16:59,271
What happened to your party?
446
00:16:59,295 --> 00:17:01,857
Well, I decided I
wanted to be here.
447
00:17:01,881 --> 00:17:03,066
Aww. For good.
448
00:17:03,090 --> 00:17:05,360
What?
449
00:17:05,384 --> 00:17:07,821
I'm coming back to Abbott.
450
00:17:07,845 --> 00:17:08,905
Yes!
451
00:17:08,929 --> 00:17:11,074
Good to have you
back, sweetheart.
452
00:17:11,098 --> 00:17:12,534
Wait, what?
453
00:17:12,558 --> 00:17:13,286
You... You quit?
454
00:17:13,310 --> 00:17:14,953
No. She got fired.
455
00:17:14,977 --> 00:17:15,954
What? Why?
456
00:17:15,978 --> 00:17:16,955
Pregnant.
457
00:17:16,979 --> 00:17:18,040
You can see it in her feet.
458
00:17:18,064 --> 00:17:19,374
No, no, no, no.
I'm not pregnant.
459
00:17:19,398 --> 00:17:21,001
You cannot get fired for that.
460
00:17:21,025 --> 00:17:22,878
And I quit.
461
00:17:22,902 --> 00:17:24,254
Well, technically, I
never signed the contract,
462
00:17:24,278 --> 00:17:25,922
so I'm in the clear. Oh.
463
00:17:25,946 --> 00:17:28,508
Reynolds did say I should
have said something sooner
464
00:17:28,532 --> 00:17:31,970
and that he will be considering
holding a grudge against Abbott,
465
00:17:31,994 --> 00:17:33,096
but it'll be fine.
466
00:17:33,120 --> 00:17:34,222
It'll be fun.
467
00:17:34,246 --> 00:17:37,392
The fact is, I love
being a teacher.
468
00:17:37,416 --> 00:17:38,935
It's who I am.
469
00:17:38,959 --> 00:17:40,937
Well, welcome back, kiddo.
470
00:17:40,961 --> 00:17:43,899
There's no one I'd rather teach
second grade with than you.
471
00:17:43,923 --> 00:17:46,902
This has made my entire year,
so I don't want to ruin it,
472
00:17:46,926 --> 00:17:48,111
but what made you
change your mind?
473
00:17:48,135 --> 00:17:50,364
It was a lot of things.
474
00:17:50,388 --> 00:17:53,450
But what really did it
for me was Barbara's card.
475
00:17:53,474 --> 00:17:56,578
My...?
476
00:17:56,602 --> 00:17:59,498
But all I wrote was
how proud I am of you
477
00:17:59,522 --> 00:18:01,541
and all the great things
you're going to do.
478
00:18:01,565 --> 00:18:04,044
Yeah, but it was the other part,
479
00:18:04,068 --> 00:18:06,630
what the kids wrote.
480
00:18:06,654 --> 00:18:09,716
I drew Ms. Teagues a
picture of a football
481
00:18:09,740 --> 00:18:12,052
and wrote that she is
the best teacher ever.
482
00:18:12,076 --> 00:18:14,680
I said, "You make me
laugh, Ms. Teagues."
483
00:18:14,704 --> 00:18:17,808
I wrote that I
miss her this much.
484
00:18:17,832 --> 00:18:21,645
And that's how I knew I
have to be with those kids.
485
00:18:21,669 --> 00:18:23,188
Is that why you had them sign?
486
00:18:23,212 --> 00:18:26,692
No. That was their idea.
487
00:18:26,716 --> 00:18:28,652
This is so sweet.
488
00:18:28,676 --> 00:18:30,112
But we all know the real
reason you came back
489
00:18:30,136 --> 00:18:31,822
is to see Questlove.
490
00:18:31,846 --> 00:18:33,657
Ava, Questlove is
not coming here.
491
00:18:33,681 --> 00:18:35,742
Now, why would I lie about that?
492
00:18:35,766 --> 00:18:36,785
Because you lied
about it last year.
493
00:18:36,809 --> 00:18:37,828
And I was honest
...about my lying.
494
00:18:37,852 --> 00:18:39,579
Oh, please.
495
00:18:39,603 --> 00:18:40,622
You're like the
principal who cried wolf,
496
00:18:40,646 --> 00:18:42,207
except she's also the wolf.
497
00:18:42,231 --> 00:18:45,293
So I guess it's just me and
Gregory against the world.
498
00:18:45,317 --> 00:18:46,962
I'm gonna take the
world's side on this one.
499
00:18:46,986 --> 00:18:48,880
Y'all gonna feel real
foolish when Questlove...
500
00:18:48,904 --> 00:18:50,799
Enough, Ava.
501
00:18:50,823 --> 00:18:53,927
We have tolerated your
lies for four years.
502
00:18:53,951 --> 00:18:55,053
Five.
503
00:18:55,077 --> 00:18:57,806
Eventually, you have
got to be stopped.
504
00:18:57,830 --> 00:19:03,729
We have watched you steal, cut
corners, lie pathologically,
505
00:19:03,753 --> 00:19:07,399
plot, prevaricate,
palter, persist,
506
00:19:07,423 --> 00:19:10,193
and I don't know whether
you are delusional or not,
507
00:19:10,217 --> 00:19:13,447
but Questlove is not...
508
00:19:13,471 --> 00:19:15,741
Oh... Is...?
509
00:19:15,765 --> 00:19:17,576
Questlove is...
510
00:19:17,600 --> 00:19:21,037
Gillette, what is
up? Questlove...
511
00:19:21,061 --> 00:19:22,122
Oh, my God, you're Questlove.
512
00:19:22,146 --> 00:19:22,957
Is here.
513
00:19:22,981 --> 00:19:24,374
You are here.
514
00:19:24,398 --> 00:19:25,608
And you know Ava?
515
00:19:27,985 --> 00:19:30,422
Do I know the Ava
Coleman? Of course.
516
00:19:30,446 --> 00:19:31,882
I mean, we go back like molars.
517
00:19:31,906 --> 00:19:33,759
I mean, I was just
talking to Allen Iverson
518
00:19:33,783 --> 00:19:35,510
the other day about
how, without her,
519
00:19:35,534 --> 00:19:37,304
our lives would have
never been the same.
520
00:19:37,328 --> 00:19:39,097
They thought I was lying, Ahmir.
521
00:19:39,121 --> 00:19:40,807
You, Honest Ava?
522
00:19:40,831 --> 00:19:41,975
Oh. That is not
what we call her.
523
00:19:41,999 --> 00:19:43,894
Okay, well, later, I'll tell you
524
00:19:43,918 --> 00:19:45,812
about the time where she
wrestled a bluefin tuna
525
00:19:45,836 --> 00:19:47,355
for my afro pick.
526
00:19:47,379 --> 00:19:50,317
Almost as fun as the day we
started The Roots together.
527
00:19:50,341 --> 00:19:52,402
Stop bragging about me.
528
00:19:52,426 --> 00:19:55,113
Now get up there and do it
for the people one time.
529
00:19:55,137 --> 00:19:58,575
I got you.
530
00:19:58,599 --> 00:20:00,577
